FAQ

How much does a ReGo conversion cost?

Total price is $13,500 for any generation 2 or 3 Prius. Call 612-822-1626 for more details.

What is the difference between ReGo’s plug-in conversions and others?

ReGo’s plug-in hybrid conversions do not pursue a high state of charge (80%) on the hybrid vehicles’ battery, but instead sends additional electric energy to the hybrid battery, keeping the hybrid battery fully charged.

Will I be able to drive all electric after the conversion? How does the conversion work?

The conversion does connect the EV mode, and if conditions are right, you can drive all electric at speeds up to 52mph. Usually you will go back and forth between all electric and “blended” hybrid assist.

What MPG can I expect? What is the most I can get?

The system will increase your fuel economy 40-100%. In warm weather, the average commuter that drives 60-80 miles per day will get a 40%-100% increase in MPG. When you travel on battery power alone (certain conditions under 52 mph), you are actually getting infinity miles per gallon since no gas is being burned. The highest a Prius screen will display is 99.9, even though you may be getting more for short periods of time. There are things you can do to improve your mileage even further if interested. Many are listed on this page at hybridcars.com.

What will you do in your installation process?

The installation is a very simple process that minimizes the impact to your car. We do not remove any factory technology, nor do we cut any wires. We simply add an additional battery pack and related equipment to the rear of the vehicle and connect that battery pack to the hybrid electric system.  We also add a switch panel to your dashboard and a plug receptacle in the bumper.

How long will it take to convert my car?

Our conversions are completed in three days or less.

Will this work in Minnesota’s cold winter?

Batteries can lose up to 70% of their capacity in the cold. To address this, all ReGo conversions include a custom battery heating and insulation system to increase performance in cold weather. All vehicles lose some efficiency in cold weather, but our conversion will still increase your mileage on cold days.

How do I recharge the system?

A heavy-duty extension cord is included to plug the car into any standard outlet (110 Volt, 7 amp). Charging time can be anywhere from 2-8 hours, depending on how much charge is already in the batteries.

How long do the batteries last?

The batteries are rated to last 6-8 years under normal conditions. After 2000 cycles, the batteries are rated to hold 80% of their original charge. After 3000 cycles, the batteries are rated to hold 70% of their original charge.

Does the conversion limit my range? What happens when the batteries run out?

ReGo’s plug-in hybrid conversions utilize the additional battery pack for up to 80 miles. After that, the car goes back to acting like a normal hybrid that runs on gas.

What is your warranty?

All conversions come with a 180-day warranty on labor and a one-year warranty on batteries and charger, and 2 years on all other parts. The parts warranty is through the manufacturer, Boulder Hybrid Conversions.

Does it void my existing warranty?

No. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits Toyota, Ford or any manufacturer  from voiding your entire warranty. The manufacturer can only dispute warranty service if they can prove a conversion damaged part of your car. Our plug-in conversion systems is designed to be very benign.

Can I access the spare tire?

The conversion sits in the spare tire well, which preserves your cargo space.  The spare tire can sit in the trunk or we offer an easy to use tire repair kit option that provides an easy solution to make it to a repair shop in most cases.

What is the difference between a plug-in hybrid conversion and 100% plug-in electric conversion?

Converting a hybrid will continue to make use of the gas engine while extending the electric drive capabilities of the car. With a 100% electric plug-in vehicle there is a defined electric range you can drive between charges since there is no longer a combustion engine.

Why not buy a new hybrid or electric car?

10% to 20% of a vehicle’s emissions are produced during the manufacturing.  A ReGo plug-in conversion is the only choice that saves the environmental impact of manufacturing a new car while increasing your mpg and reducing your dependence on oil.  By converting your vehicle, you will also extend the life of your existing car and avoid the manufacture of a new car.” There are significant positive environmental impacts of reuse. Finally, converting to a plug-in hybrid is an action you can take today without waiting for the future release of electric vehicles by the auto industry.

What models of hybrids can you convert?
